Homeschooling 101

I found some homeschooling information that I wanted to share with all of those friends who will be homeschooling their kindergartner this year. You may need to know it...you may not. But I wanted to post it just in case. Because I was really excited to find it (and the website), being that I'm not going with any particular curriculum for kindergarten. The following are a list of the subjects needed for kindergarten completion AND the topics used for each subject, as listed on the site: http://homeschooling.about.com/.

I plan on tweaking it for us. I think some of the topics listed are a little more advanced than Kindergarten, but...who knows? I will be adding things like Bible memorization and Spanish and ...?

But it's so nice to feel like I have a list of topic ideas to try out. ...and a glorious check list of sorts. (I love checking things off)

WOW -- I have to say I'm REALLY glad I don't need to be worried about home schooling. Reading that list made me feel overwhelmed... for you! :o)

Yeah, I know. :) It's kind of like kindergarten on steroids or something, eh? Hence the reason I said we'd "tweak" it. hee hee

I could stand to learn a lot of those things myself. Are you taking additional students?

Wow! That is quite the list. I am still undecided as to when to start Kindergarten with Joseph. That list isn't helping with the "start now" side of me. :) I better get my hiney in gear.
With Charis reading already you are going to have a smooth sailing K year! She is one smart cookie.

Um, I'm glad this list inspires you, because it has the opposite effect on me--totally stressing me out!!! :) I do feel confident in my plan for Josiah's kindergarten year, and I know we're really hitting the things on that list...but to see it all laid out like that makes me start sweating!

It's ironic because in homeschooling, we're "supposed" to focus less on "grading" our students by conventional methods. The actual learning is the important part, not the grade, right? But then we turn right around and start "grading" ourselves as homeschool moms! At least, I do. Silly! :)

It's so nice that our kids are still in the sponge stage, where they soak up learning!

I have no doubt that you all will have a great kindergarten year! And I think Selah will really have fun and benefit from it, too. :)
