So this past Thursday (7th), we all gathered around the chair that Mommy had been loafing on to tell the girls our secret:
"God answered your prayers, Charis."
"What prayers?!"
"There's a baby in Mommy's belly!"
"A boy?!"
"Well... maybe." Jet and I exchange glances over her head. "It's up to God to decide."
"It IS. It is a boy. Because I prayed for one for a long time. So God DID decide." The indignant confidence was almost funny. :)
Selah came over and layed her hand on my belly. "Thank you, Jesus, for this baby boy... like Charis prayed. And thank you that you won't take him to heaven."
I could only stare at her. It's at times like these that I, again, realize how keenly aware of everything the girls were during the last miscarriage. And the personal loss they also felt.
Selah looks up at me and says, matter of factly: "Now you have two babies."
"Two? Who's the other one?" (thinking that she was talking about Raegan).
"Well, one is XXXX (boy name) that you named last year." She shrugs, "I don't know the other name." She was speaking of twins. Which Charis has been religiously praying for since the birth of Raegan. ?????
Selah continued on: "...and Raegan can share her crib with XXXX!! Right, Mommy?!"
It took our girls No Time Flat to familiarize themselves with the news of a new baby. For seconds after hearing it, Selah was already referring to the baby as a boy...and by his name. (Obviously, with three girls, we've had a boy name for a while now!)
Which brings me to the obvious fact: in their minds, this baby cannot be a girl. Any less than a man-child would be sacrilege. I did have to intervene on that train of thought though. When the next day, they kept thanking God for making the baby a boy. I had to remind them that they had wanted a boy when I was carrying Raegan. But how they loved having her be a GIRL. They relented by changing their prayers to "a boy or a girl" though I could tell it was a half-hearted thing. :)
I thought it was all taken care of until after the Sunday "unveiling" of the news to my parents, Charis told my mom, "I wish I had been a boy." WHY, Charis?! "Because we need brothers!" My mouth hit the floor, as well as my heart. I never want my Charis Girl to feel like she has to be anything less than what she is. Especially because she's a girl!!
But I have a feeling that regardless of what the baby is, all of the girls will be thrilled. It just always seems to work out that way.
Because when all is said and done, Charis is just thrilled that I'm having a BABY so soon: "It's funny that you're growing a baby in your belly when Raegan is still a baby. You surprised me!!!" ;) Raegan and Baby #4 will be 18 months apart.

Hmmmmm...sounds slightly familiar :) When I was pregnant with Ethan my sister had two girls (at that point). The boys LOVED their girl cousins so they REALLY wanted a girl (I, however, wanted another boy. God is good. hehe) So, when I went to the ultra sound and walked back in the door, they were all standing around the table with eager faces, "IS IT A GIRL??" Uh, no. Boy. We saw the parts. :) Michael was in school then and his teacher said he was sad for DAYS! As soon as we had Ethan both boys (ages 7 and 8 then) said they were so glad God gave them a boy and not a girl! I am sure they will be so excited whatever you have...how about a boy AND a girl? :)
My two older ones are 16 mo. apart and we love that...BUT we love the 7 year age difference between Michael and Ethan too. How far apart are Charis and Selah?
So happy for you...no matter what you have.
Your girls are my two sisters and me at that same age. My mom remembers us sitting on the top of our steps holding hands praying. When she asked what we were praying we told her that we were praying for a brother. My mom found out she was pregnant a few days later...with our brother!
Your girls don't miss a beat do they? :)
Congratulations on the pregnancy...with those little girls, their prayers and their faith, I won't be surprised if it IS a boy! :) Your family is precious! Love you!
Congrats!!!! Take it from someone who prayed prayed prayed for boys...I will pray that you get a boy!
Very cute how your girls attach themselves to the idea of a brother. My girls have not had the same reaction to me being pregnant. They always want another sister!
Oh and I also wanted to say...you can handle the age difference! I had two that were 7 minutes apart and another 2 that were 15 months apart. If I could handle it...anyone could!
Christin;
Congratulations...what a beautiful family God is growing for you. The hearts of your girls are precious.

I hope it is a BOY too! ;)
Such sweet reactions! I often think how glad your children will be to read these amazing tidbits years from now. Good for you for recording them so faithfully...and thanks a million for sharing them with us! :)
Since we're in the same boat (except opposite) as you, with 3 children of the same gender, I'll share this with you: on Saturday when some friends came to visit, the subject of more children came up. One of them asked Josiah whether he wanted a sister next time, and he said that no, he wanted a brother because boys are rougher than girls. Obviously, he doesn't know your girls too well! :) But for a long time, he wanted a sister, so it was interesting to me that he's switched to brother now.
I'm sure your girls will adapt just fine, no matter what God gives you! :)
How cute! I didn't really get to experience Jaedon's reaction to my pregnancy with Audrey. He was still just a baby himself. They are 17 months apart. It's fun to hear the thought process of older siblings!
well, congratulations to you all. Your girls are so sweet. My daughter wanted a sister when we had our 4th, who turned out to be another boy- we were thrilled and she was as well as soon as she saw him. Now they are so close.
You have to love the faith of kids! :) I remember finding Laurianna sitting on the floor in the living room when she was 2 praying quietly and then heard her say, "What? You will? Thank you Jesus!" And when I asked her what she had been praying for, she said God had told her that he was going to give her a baby brother.
Gotta love them!

HOW SWEET.
My crew are also praying for a boy. Your girls are so adorable. Isn't it amazing that no matter how many children you have, the other children are always excited? You would think they might get tired of it! This is number 8 (6th baby) and ALL of my kids were YELLING and JUMPING around. I feel a post coming on here...
Thanks for sharing. What a precious time in your life.
YEA, Congratulations! :0)
Your kiddos are just to sweet, WOW what Faith kids have, truly amazing! 18 months apart will be soooo much fun for them, especially as they get older, I'm really enjoying my 15 months apart little ones now!! :0)
How exciting!
Boy or girl they will be thrilled.
Oh what a conversation...wow...that gender thing ;)
Praying for your friend tonight. Much love and hugs.
Imagine if it is a boy - what a crowd of fans he will have! But having lots of sisters is WONDERFUL too - something they'll fully realize over their lifetimes. Man, every time I hear what kids are saying I can't wait to hear Haven verbalize his thoughts!
