Ah, isn't that a winner?! There is a genuine smile. Eyes are focused at the camera. 
Dresses are down. Underwear is hidden. Hands are controlled.
Even the youngest one adheres to the Unspoken Law of when sitting alone, one must smile pretty. Sit up straight. Make eyes at the goofy lady behind the camera.Then I got daring. I figured, these are an obvious success. So I'll go ahead and add one more child into the mix...
Okay, so maybe one isn't looking at the camera, but at least she's pleasantly smiling. 
They look genuinely pleased to be having their picture taken, don't they? Cooperation seems to come so naturally.But then...add the third child. Go ahead. Try it. Something combusts. Panic breaks out. Chaos ensues.
Can someone tell me why this is?! Maybe because I was the lone adult on the scene? Hmm...could this have been my downfall?BUT Finally...after taking at least 80 more pictures filled with stray arms, exposed bottoms, and wandering eyes, I got this one.

I would have tried to get the doberman decked in reindeer antlers sitting beside them, but...I am well aware of my limits... and large dog with nails-needing-to-be-trimmed, delicate Christmas dresses, and lone parent holding camera far exceed them. Wouldn't you agree? ;)

What pretty dresses. I know what you mean about that 3rd child and pictures. Just too many variables I guess. I kind of like the chaotic one. So real. ~Karlie
I find whole family photos SO STRESSFUL! My stress probably has to do with my need for perfection and my children's need to not be confined to one spot.
We just recently got our family photos taken with not just our family but my siblings and my sister in law. So there were 12 of us. Talk about crazy!

hee hee - I think we took around 80 pictures too last year - to get the ONE good shot of all four of the kids. You have to love them. I suppose I need to remember to buy tights too so that we can all dress up soon and take pictures too. sigh. I'll call you and ask for prayer first before I start. *grins*

So cute! It is quite the task getting that perfect shot. I have one that loves the camera and one that absolutely hates it. I am sure you can guess which is which. I guess I should think about christmas pics sometime soon....nothing like leaving it to the last minute,eh?!?! :)

awwwwww, i'm impressed. the patience to take 80 pics, mom. wow. i only have 2 kids and i take ya know, like 2. then i'm done. maybe i get extra grace when the third comes? is that what happens? tell me its true.

Only 80? You must be doing something right! I took well over 100! Yeah. You know what picture finally made the cut? Hahahaha! Another round of individual pictures and our Christmas card this year has 3 pictures on it! Thank you Kodak.com! :)

I am right with ya on that...it NEVER works for me. I do so much better if I don't make a big deal about taking the picture. No warning. Just grab the camera when they are doing something cute and quickly take it. The last few years that is how it happened...AFTER trying (and trying) to get a good "posed" shot. The tricky part is that this year I want Ryan and I in the shot. I always wish my friends would send pictures of them as well as there kids.
Cute shot. My sisters picture of her girls last Christmas looks almost identical...even the dresses...this year there is an Elijah in the photo!
